PREMIER Center welcomes 633,000 in first 12 months
More than 630,000 people attended events at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center during the venue’s first twelve months, starting September 19, 2014 through September 18, 2015.
“In our wildest dreams, we could not imagine the level of success our new Events Center would have one year out of the blocks,” says Mayor Mike Huether. “My gut says the best is yet to come!”
There were 12 sold out events during that time, including concerts by Def Leppard, Kenny Chesney, The Eagles, and Luke Bryan. The Professional Bull Riders tour sold out both of its dates this past March.
The Sioux Falls Stampede sold out two of its games during the team’s Clark Cup championship season. The Sioux Falls Storm also won its league title this past season.
“The stars kind of aligned for the venue’s first year,” says Terry Torkildson, General Manager of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. “Concert acts that had been performing in major outdoor stadiums brought their shows here. Both of our tenant sports teams won championships in the first season at their new home. It was a remarkable year.”
Concerts, sporting events, and family shows made up the bulk of the 138 event days at the PREMIER Center, with a diverse lineup of acts helping reach a variety interests.
There were nine pop/rock concerts and all five country music concerts sold out, some within a matter of minutes.
The success of ticket sales at the facility has led to great interest from concert promoters, who see Sioux Falls’ new arena as a desirable location to bring concerts. Promoters have been very complimentary about the venue and SMG staff.
Just three months after opening, the PREMIER Center was nominated by concert industry professionals for the prestigious Pollstar Awards as one of the Best New Major Concert Venues in the world, competing against only three other facilities in some of the world’s largest media markets including Los Angeles, New York, and Glasgow, Scotland.
