PREMIER Center Finishes 2015 with $1.9 million Net Operating Income, Top Worldwide Venue Rankings


The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center finished its first full calendar year with 11 sold out events and $1.9 million in net operating income. Including the Convention Center and Arena, the entire complex netted $1.44 million.

“The support from the public has been incredible since our opening in 2014,” says Terry Torkildson, General Manager of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. “Sioux Falls finally has an arena that it deserves. We look forward to hosting many more successful events in the years to come.”

The PREMIER Center also ranks among the world’s highest ticket-selling concert and sports venues, according to data released by Pollstar Magazine for 2015. The venue ranked 100th in the world with 140,918 tickets sold during the year for touring events.

By comparison, the Target Center in Minneapolis placed 57th with 296,226 tickets sold; CenturyLink Center in Omaha ended the year with 225,606 tickets sold, placing it at number 71 on the list; and Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul placed 77th with just over 212,000 tickets sold.

Among other venues in the region Des Moines’ Wells Fargo Arena placed 115th with 117,075 tickets sold; Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln placed 123rd with 103,469 tickets sold; and U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa placed 167th with 62,332 tickets sold.

According to industry trade publication Venues Today, the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center ranked 18th among worldwide venues, and 11th among American venues, with capacities of 15,000 or less, based on concert and event grosses from Oct. 16, 2014-Oct. 15, 2015.

The PREMIER Center hosted 645,659 people during the year over the course of 135 event dates. Sold out events included Elton John, Shania Twain, and Def Leppard.

“2015 was an extraordinary year at the PREMIER Center,” says Chris Semrau, Assistant General Manager at the PREMIER Center who books events. “We anticipate a strong year for ticket sales in 2016, and it is our goal to consistently place among the world’s busiest venues.”
