Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Nominated for Best New Major Concert Venue
Sioux Falls’ newest sports and entertainment venue is on a short list of international venues to be nominated for Best New Major Concert Venue for the 26th annual Pollstar® awards.
Denny Sanford PREMIER Center was nominated along with the Forum in Inglewood, CA, PPL Center in Allentown, PA, and The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, UK.
The nominees were selected by an anonymous collection of 216 promoters, agents, managers and other touring professionals. The only requirement was that nominees could not nominate themselves or their clients.
The facility opened last month with the sold out Jason Aldean’s Burn it Down tour with Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr, and has hosted several additional concerts. A diverse number of other events are scheduled including sold out performances by Cher and Eric Church, as well as Nickelback, Cirque du Soleil, WWE, Disney Junior Live, Monster X Tour, and Sesame Street Live.
“We appreciate the commitment the touring industry has shown in the Sioux Falls market and the PREMIER Center,” said Chris Semrau, SMG Assistant General Manager who is tasked with booking the facility. “This market is hungry for great entertainment and we are committed to securing diverse programming and continuing to host fantastic touring events.”
“For this facility to be nominated with venues from the two largest markets in the country—Allentown, which is part of the New York City market, and Los Angeles; as well as Glasgow, which is the capital of Scotland, is a huge honor,” says General Manager Terry Torkildson. “It’s a testament to the great partnership between the city of Sioux Falls and SMG to attract great events to this amazing facility.”
“The wait was worth it and we think our new Event Center is extra special,” Mayor Mike Huether says. “Concerts have proven to be one of a kind here!”
The winners of all categories will be revealed at the February 21 Pollstar® awards show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
