Sioux Falls to Host Division I Women's Regional Basketball in 2016
NCAA officials announced Thursday, November, 20 that the city of Sioux Falls has been chosen as to host the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional in 2016.
"We are honored to have been selected as a host and are thrilled to bring March Madness to the city of Sioux Falls and the state of South Dakota,” said Wes Hall, Executive Director of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority. “We want to thank the NCAA for this great opportunity and we look forward to being a part of the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship and the Road to the Final Four.”
Sioux Falls Sports Authority submitted three bids in October to host a regional round of the NCAA Division I NCAA Women's Basketball Championship in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The state-of-the-art Denny Sanford PREMIER Center will play host to the event.
The NCAA released bid specifications for the regional round of the DI Women’s Basketball Championships earlier this summer. Bids were made available for 2016, 2017, and 2018.
The Sioux Falls Sports Authority was formed in 2006 by community leaders to recruit major sporting events to the Sioux Falls area. In 2013, the City of Sioux Falls was chosen to host eight NCAA national championships over four years beginning in 2015. Championships for which Sioux Falls was selected as a host include 2015 Division II (DII) Women’s Basketball, 2016 DII Women’s Basketball, 2016 DII Wrestling, 2016 DII Women’s Volleyball, 2017 DII Men’s Basketball, 2018 DII Women’s Basketball, 2018 DII Men’s Basketball, and 2018 DII Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field.
